The Outdoors Childhood Review is examining the case for improved outdoor and natural environment learning, play and adventure opportunities for children and young people in the UK.
(This is a temporary landing page, the public project goes live with web and socials early in 2026).
The Encouragement
We anticipate the Review will lead to a collective push for improvement; similar to the public focus on food quality, school meals, public smoking, etc.
The Evidence
Compelling research on the benefits of outdoors childhood experiences exist already in studies for universities, charities, corporations and more.
We are setting out to relay those valued findings, source further contemporary findings and opinions, compile it and present the available bundle of evidence as a substantive case for debate and positive improvement.
The Public Involvement:
Public activity and awareness during 2026 will, hopefully, get the UK talking about – and acting purposefully on – the issues highlighted by The Outdoors Childhood Review.
It’s a conversation we’d like to hear taking place from the school-run, to council chambers, from churches, to youth organisations, from cafe culture, to third-age socials. And absolutely from the kids; their voice needs to be listened to intently.
With realistic challenges, such as spending one hour a week extra being active in the natural environment, to factual TV documentary, our supporters are working on a range of achievable concepts.
We firmly believe this is a purposeful moment of public focus, which will gather widespread popular support from parents, children, public figures, third sector, corporations and all political leanings.
The Actions
Through positive PR and support from public figures, momentum will build for six months during 2026 around a UK Government Petition, calling to have clear aspects of the topic debated in Parliament for cross-party prioritisation.
But it’s not just about government action. Small changes can make a big difference throughout society – and we will share inspiring ideas and stories along the way.
Next Steps
Ahead of launch, we will be grateful to receive (i) credible evidence for submission (ii) valuable connections (iii) in-kind assistance
